Romans 8:28 – “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
What a marvelous passage! There was a day when I believed this was Bible proof that if I acted like a good Christian I would soon be driving my dream car, a forest green BMW 525 with tan leather interior and a stick shift transmission. Then as I studied my Bible further I discovered that Jesus Christ owned almost nothing and promised his closest disciples that they would have to endure persecution and hardship. This was not the good for which I had been hoping!
My search of Scripture led me to understand that a part of sanctification is the process of God changing me into something a lot better than this world can offer. I finally began to see that Romans 8:28 and 8:29 cannot be separated:
“For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.”
God wasn’t promising me a new car. God was promising to work everything together to allow me to become more like Jesus! No matter the circumstance or the pain I may receive as a result of my sin or the sin of another, I know that the Almighty God is weaving everything together to help me better reflect Him to a lost world while I glorify Him.
