In Genesis 2:17 we read, But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. This is God’s condemnation on disobedience. His desire was for mankind diligently obey His word and live in fellowship with Him forever.
Of course, we know that because of Adam’s choice to disobey, sin, the curse and death passed upon all of God’s creation. This grieves the heart of God. His justice demands separation, but His love desires restoration. So, we come to John 6 and find Jesus Christ speaking to a crowd of followers who had been miraculously fed. In this text, Jesus, shows how He commends the love of God in restoring our fellowship to God through salvation. Christ is the Bread of Life and all those who partake of Him by faith will receive new life. Condemnation for mankind is turned on the commendation of Christ for us. Jesus proclaims clearly that the curse of the Garden, death, is over for those who trust in Him. The full circle of God’s redemption plan is found in John 6:50 as it directly rectifies Adam’s failure to obey in the Garden: This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.
Take this seed and let it grow in your hearts today: God’s love provides a solution to man’s problem of sin, that is the Savior, Jesus Christ!
