In His last meeting with the disciples before returning to Heaven, Jesus gave the Apostles a series of instructions to follow. The first was one that many struggle with today: “Wait!”
Unless we are empowered by God, all our labor and effort will be in vain. But waiting on God is a real challenge. To overcome it, we need to understand that God’s timing is more important than ours and that He does not regard our time waiting on Him as wasted. Waiting is not an excuse for laziness, it is a vital part of our walk with God.
Remember this as you wait on God to guide you: He is never in a hurry, and He is never late. We should adapt our timetables to His if we are to serve Him well, always quick to obey His call to action but equally willing to wait until we hear from Him.
Being assembled together with them, [Jesus] commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. (Acts 1:4)
