Unbelief Is Not a Winning Strategy

Of all the foolish things Christians do as they make their pilgrim journey through this life, doubting God is the greatest folly.

Scripture provides a great illustration in the story of the Israelites approaching their promised land. God had miraculously freed them from slavery, helped them in battle, sustained them in the wilderness, guided them by His superintending presence and provided them with a unique place of worship where His glory resided in their midst. At last, He brought them to the border of a land flowing with milk and honey, just as He had promised.

And then God’s people decided it would be a good idea to check on God, sending spies to confirm His promise before they would take the final step. The spies reported that the land was indeed rich and bountiful, but there were some details that did not match their notions about how it should be. There were giants in the land!

The resulting unbelief that God could deliver all He had promised had deadly consequences, leading to a decades-long delay, and death in the wilderness of an entire generation. Before you shake your head at their foolishness, consider how you measure up in your walk with God during these uncertain times.
